Hartwick Cruises in Opener 4-0
ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick’s women’s soccer team had little trouble with visiting Keuka at the 11th annual Erinn K. Brozman Memorial Cup on Saturday at Elmore Field in a 4-0 shutout victory. Senior Kylie Thayer (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) gave the Hawks all they would need 1:20 into the contest with the first of her two goals on the day.
Annie Millar (Ilion, NY/Ilion) and Alley Maurer (Jackson, NJ/Old Bridge) split time in the Hartwick goal to combine for the shutout. The duo combined for four stops.
Thayer put ’Wick ahead to stay after receiving a pass at the top of the Keuka box from freshman Casey Boucher (Northbridge, MA/Northbridge). She collected the ball and ripped a shot past Keuka’s starting goalkeeper Kenna Kosinski for the early advantage.
Less than 20 minutes later, Boucher found the net for the first time in a Hartwick jersey. Cami Cleaveland (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) started the play with a service from the right side line. The ball fell to Boucher who sent her shot to the far corner beyond the reach of Kosinski for the two-goal edge.
Four minutes, 14 seconds later, Cleaveland picked up her first tally of the season for the Hawks’ third goal. Her shot from 25 yards out flew over the head of Kosinski leaving her no chance.
Hartwick put the finishing touches on the day’s goal scoring just 50 seconds into the second half. Freshman Sierra Bentley (Worcester, NY/Schenevus) rang a shot off the post from in close and the ball popped back out to Thayer who was there to finish the play off for ’Wick’s fourth goal.
The Hawks outshot the Wolfpack by a comfortable margin of 19-6, including a 13-3 edge in the second half alone.
Millar made three stops in the opening 45 minutes in goal for ’Wick. Maurer made three saves in the final 45 minutes.
The second day of competition concludes tomorrow as Keuka plays Utica at 1 p.m. Hartwick then hosts Lycoming at 4 p.m.
