Hartwick Rallies Past Siena Soccer
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Johnny McBeth scored the game-winner in the 78th minute as reigning Sun Belt Conference Regular Season and Tournament Champion Hartwick rallied past Siena Soccer 2-1 at Siena Turf Field. Senior striker Junior Rosero accounted for the Saints’ goal.
Rosero staked Siena (1-5-2) to a quick advantage, scoring just four and a half minutes into the match. A poor goal kick from Hartwick (3-1-2) keeper Lenny Wilson was corralled in close by Rosero who broke in uncontested for his second score of the season.
But in what was a wide open match early on, the Hawks netted the equalizer just two minutes later. Jack Donaldson crossed in a ball from the left that was header over by Mike Rood to Harry Morton who finished just inside and off the near right post.
The squads combined for 17 shots and six corners in the opening stanza, but the match would remain knotted at 1-1 heading into intermission.
The second half was more tightly contested, but Hartwick was able to break through with the go-ahead tally with just over 12 minutes remaining. Donaldson again initiated the scoring play, playing the ball wide right to Marc Berry who crossed in to McBeth who headed the decisive tally just inside the near post.
The Hawks held a 14-10 edge in shots and a 6-1 advantage in corners. Junior goalkeeper Aleksa Radosavljevic made four saves for the Saints, while Wilson stopped three shots for Hartwick.
Siena concludes the non-conference portion of its schedule Saturday night with a 7 p.m. kickoff at George Mason.
