HAWKS DROP HOME OPENER TO SETON HALL 1-0
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Monmouth University women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Seton Hall in its home opener Friday afternoon on The Great Lawn. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 0-2 on the season while the Pirates picked up their second victory of the year.
After playing to a scoreless first half, SHU got on the board in the 71st minute as Stephanie Soma played a ball over the MU defense to Katlyn Ritterjust inside the top of the 18-yard mark. Ritter took one touch and fired high inside the post past MU's goalkeeper Ally Mancino for the game-winner.
Seniors Courtney Snyder and Jennie Vartebedian, junior Claudia Vazquez and sophomore Dana Costello each registered a shot in the contest.
Mancino turned away six shots in net for the Hawks while Jennifer Pettigrew made three saves to earn the shutout.
SHU held the advantage in shots, 14-4, and corners, 5-2.
Monmouth returns to action on Friday, September 2nd, for a 7:00 p.m. match at Lafayette.
