Highland's Celler signs with the Skyhawks
DURANGO, Colo. — Fort Lewis College women’s soccer coach Damian Clarke announced the addition of Molly Celler to his 2012 recruiting class.
Celler, a 5-foot-10 defender from Highland High School, earned second team All-5-1A Central Region honors the past two seasons and All-5-1A Central Region honorable mention as a freshman. The Arizona Republic chose her as a player to watch in 2012.
“Molly is another Gilbert Arsenal product, and over the years this club has become very familiar with what we need at Fort Lewis College in order to compete in this conference,” said Clarke, who begins his sixth season as head coach for the Skyhawks next fall. “Molly is going to add depth to our program, quality depth. She is a powerful player, one who will continue to develop in our system as a tough defender as well as a capable attacking threat. We have been following Molly for the last few years and she also came to camp this past summer and was one of the best players in the elite group. We are looking forward to having her in the program.”
The daughter of Ted and Kim Celler of Gilbert, Ariz., Celler plans to study Environmental and Organismic Biology at Fort Lewis.
Celler joins six players who have signed with the Skyhawks thus far in 2012: Jordan Hix, a 5-foot-9 midfielder/defender from Eldorado High School in Albuquerque, N.M.; Brooke Milliet, a 5-foot-5 attacking player from Durango High School; Savannah Seiter, a 5-foot-4 midfielder from Durango; Grace Sheridan, a 5-foot-9 defender from Lakewood High School; Dani Sheppard, a 5-foot-7 goalkeeper from Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and Laura Tita, a 5-foot-9 central defender from Highlands Ranch.
Fort Lewis (15-3-4 overall, 10-2-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) finished the season ranked No. 11 in NCAA Division II. The Skyhawks lose just four seniors to graduation: midfielder Sara Egbom, forward Hayley Hollenga, midfielder Jane Barden, and defender Michelle Felten.
