Holy Cross Men's Soccer Topped, 3-0, At Dartmouth
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Three early first half goals doomed the Holy Cross men's soccer team as it fell, 3-0, in Patriot League action versus Bucknell at Emmitt Field. With the decision, the Crusaders combine for a record of 1-9-2 (0-4-0 Patriot League) while Bucknell goes to 7-5-1 (2-2-0 PL). Junior netminder Evan Polanik (Holliston, Mass.) finished with four saves in the contest.
The Bison struck in the first minute of action, scoring on a rebound shot. Bucknell scored two more times in the half, coming at 6:48 and 13:31 to jump ahead 3-0 early on. Holy Cross would only be able to get off two shots in the first 45 minutes while Polanik made two saves. The Crusaders evened the offensive tempo in the second half as both teams added five shots. Neither team would score, as Holy Cross fell by the final 3-0 tally. Freshman Will Bowers (Raleigh, N.C.) and junior Steven Stefanak (Massapequa, N.Y.) led the Crusader offense with two shots taken apiece. Polanik made two more saves to bring his game total to four.
Despite the scoreless second half, Polanik tallied the loss, going to 0-4-0 on the season. Bucknell goalkeeper, Tommy Caso, finished the game with one save on one shot on-goal attempt and collects a record of 7-4-1. The Bison totaled 16 shots while the Crusaders had seven total shooting opportunities.
Holy Cross remains on the road for a non-conference contest against New Hampshire next. The game will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 18 beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Bremner Field in Durham, N.H.
