Hottsmith and the Warhawks win 4th Straight
Dylan Hottsmith (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team made it four in row Sunday topping St. Olaf 1-0 in Northfield, Minnesota. Hottsmith has tallied a point in each of UW-Whitewater's four games this season, all wins. The four games spanned six days, with three of the four games on the road.
Although there was only one goal in the game, the pace was fast. There were 26 shots in the game, of which twelve were on goal.
Kyle Clancy (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) wasted little time putting pressure on the Oles firing a shot that glanced off the post just 23 seconds into the game. Carmel Nezien (Pouni, Burkina Faso/Lycee De Tenado) followed 17 seconds later with a shot on goal that was saved by St. Olaf's Ben Braman.
Warhawk goalkeeper Alex Buchman (Waterford, Wis./Waterford) stopped a header from going into the goal in the 7th minute and made another save five minutes later.
Nezien kept Braman on his toes again, ripping a shot on net in the 13th minute, but Braman made the stop. The Warhawks fired three more shots over the course of the next ten minutes to keep St. Olaf on the defense.
UW-Whitewater made a strong push towards the end of the first half firing three shots, two on goal, but the Oles managed to escape the half with a tie.
Buchman stepped up again early in the second half making two more saves to keep the game scoreless.
Hottsmith gave Buchman some breathing room when he scored his third goal of the season off of a pass from Nezien in the 52nd minute.
The teams traded shots the rest of the half but neither team had any luck as the Warhawks held on to win 1-0.
Buchman totaled seven saves in the game, the most of the season, and secured his third shutout. He and the Warhawks have allowed just one goal in four games.
UW-Whitewater returns to action next Sunday when they host Benedictine University at 4 pm at Fiskum Field.
