Howard Named Player of the Week, Piroscafo Earns Goalkeeper Honors
Senior Jamal Howard (West Haven, Conn.) and sophomore Donato Piroscafo (Naugatuck, Conn.) have been tagged with Great Northeast Athletic Conference weekly honors as announced Monday by the conference office. Howard has been named GNAC men’s soccer Player of the Week, while Piroscafo has been selected as the Goalkeeper of the Week.
Howard, who leads the Falcons with 11 points on five goals and one assist, guided Albertus to a 2-0 week as the Falcons defeated Regis College 4-0 in their home opener and downed Saint Joseph’s College 2-1 in overtime on the road in Standish, Maine.
This is Howard’s first major weekly honor of the 2011 season.
Against Regis, Howard scored two of the Falcons’ four goals, while he scored both of the Falcons’ goals in their 2-1 overtime GNAC victory on Saturday.
Piroscafo played 108 minutes for the Falcons on the week, picking up two victories between the pipes. The sophomore allowed one goal but made eight saves on nine shots faced in net. He made four stops against Regis on Monday, Sept. 12 then recorded four saves on the road at Saint Joe’s.
On the year, Piroscafo has played in 529 minutes in six matches and has posted a goals against average of 1.53. He has also made 37 saves for the Falcons.
Albertus will host non-conference opponent Mitchell College on Wednesday, Sept. 21 in a 4:00p.m. contest.
