Husker Offense Slowed by Spartans
Lincoln - Laura Heyboer's 15th goal of the season at the 24:05 mark ended up being the only offense Michigan State would need on Friday night at the Nebraska Soccer Field, as the Spartans beat the Huskers by a score of 1-0. Nebraska had many opportunities to score throughout the game, but couldn't find the back of the net. On the night, NU out-shot MSU 16-9 and had six shots on goal, compared to the Spartans' three.
Junior Morgan Marlborough, who entered the week as the national leader with 1.50 goals per game, had a pair of scoring opportunities, but was just a bit high on each attempt and hit the crossbar. Senior Molly Thomas also had a breakaway late in the second half, but was unable to put on a solid strike and shot wide of the goal. The Huskers fall to 5-4-1 on the season and now carry a .500 record in Big Ten play at 2-2-0 after starting the conference season with a pair of wins over Northwestern and Purdue.
