BOSTON – Following a 35-minute delay due to lightning, the Northeastern women’s soccer team lost to South Carolina, 3-0, at Parsons Field Sunday afternoon.

The Huskies threatened to score first when Morgan Hilby broke past the South Carolina defense in the 15th minute, but she was fouled just outside the 18-yard box. The Gamecocks saved the ensuing free kick.

South Carolina got on the board in the 23rd minute when Sophie Groff received a crossing pass from Daija Griffin and scored from just outside the six-yard box.

The Gamecocks entered the second half with more offensive pressure and went up 2-0 the 50th minute with a goal from Danielle Au, assisted by Chelsea Drennan.

Raina Johnson scored from 20 yards out to put South Carolina ahead 3-0 in the 55th minute.

Paige Burnett recorded a season-best 10 saves for the Huskies, five in each half. Her previous season-high mark was nine saves in a 1-1 tie against Northwestern.

The Huskies travel to New Hampshire on Thursday, Sept. 5 for a 7 p.m. kickoff with the Wildcats.
