Huskies knock off Georgia State, 3-1
ATLANTA – The Northeastern men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to eight games on Saturday night with a 3-1 victory at Georgia State. Don Anding registered four points for the Huskies (9-1-2), who received goals from three different scorers.
Oliver Blum was once again solid in goal for Northeastern, making three saves during the match to earn his seventh victory of the season.
Following a scoreless first half in which the Huskies outshot the Panthers 5-3, the teams combined for three goals in less than 10 minutes, beginning with Terence Carter's third goal of the season in the 53rd minute. Anding began the play with a low cross from the left side onto the foot of Carter. Carter then quickly settled the ball and rifled a shot from the top of the 18-yard box and into the lower left side of the net.
The lead would be short-lived, however, as Georgia State leveled the score at one seven minutes later on a goal from William Mellors-Blair. After receiving a bouncing ball from 45 yards out, Mellors-Blair chipped the ball over the NU defense before beating Blum in a one-on-one battle for the score. The goal ended Blum's streak of more than 240 minutes without allowing a goal.
Northeastern would strike back just over two minutes later as Anding netted his team-leading ninth goal of the season when he spotted a loose ball and fired a shot off Georgia State goalkeeper Vincent Foermer and into the net.
The Huskies would add an insurance marker in the 79th minute from Donovan Fayd'Herbe de Maudave off a cross from Anding during an odd-man rush. Fayd'Herbe de Maudave corralled the loose ball and buried it right side.
The Huskies will return to action on Wednesday as Northeastern hosts Hofstra on Parsons Field at 6 p.m.
