Indiana Defeats Bakersfield 4-1
BLOOMINGTON, Ind.--Defending national champion Indiana scored twice in less than minute in the first half and twice in a span of two minutes in the second as the Hoosiers (2-3) defeated Bakersfield (2-2) 4-1 Friday night.
A David Velasquez (R-Jr., Los Angeles, Calif., Locke HS) header at 23:21 of the first half off a Mario Ortiz (Fr., Los Angeles, Leuzinger HS) pass gave the Roadrunners a 1-0 advantage. Tommy Thompson tied the score in the 29th minute. 54 seconds later Jacob Bushue gave Indiana the lead with his second goal of the year.
Felix Hollinger-Jensen and AJ Corrado scored less than two minutes apart with just over 20 to play to make it 4-1 for Indiana.
"We lost to an excellent Indiana team," said Bakersfield head coach Simon Tobin. "They a senior laden team and we showed a little inexperience after we took the lead."
The Roadrunners travel to No. 16 Louisville Sunday for a 5 p.m. (EDT) start.
