Iona Women's Soccer Drops Versus NJ
NEWARK, NJ – The Iona College women's soccer team dropped its road contest at NJIT on Friday afternoon, 1-0. The Maroon & Gold rookie goalkeeping tandem of Kailey Homoky and Emma Havrilla combined to make four saves as he Highlanders out shot the Gaels, 15-1.
NJIT scored the game-winning goal in the 8'. Katrina Nguyen-Demary assisted Finna Wright for her first goal of the season. The Highlanders recorded 10 of their shots in the first half. Homoky, who made her first start of her collegiate career, made three saves. Junior forward Amber Crispin had Iona's lone shot on goal in the 28' of the first half.
Havrilla started and played the entire second half. She was required to make just one save.
NJIT was called for off sides four times. It had three corner opportunities compared to just one for the Maroon & Gold.
It's a quick turnaround for Iona as it returns to the pitch in Vestal, NY on Sunday, Aug. 26 against the Binghamton Bearcats. Kick-off is scheduled for 3 pm. The game is being broadcasted on ESPN .
