IUP's Robbins Silences Marauders
Millersville, Pa. – The Indiana (Pa.) women’s soccer team, previously ranked No. 15, was left out of Tuesday’s new NSCAA top-25 after tying third-ranked California (Pa.) on Monday. The Crimson Hawks traveled to Chryst Field at Biemsderfer Stadium on Wednesday and shut out Millersville by a score of 3-0 on five points by Heather Robbins.
Millersville (5-5-1, 3-5-1PSAC) and IUP (8-1-2, 6-1-2 PSAC) started the game with strong defenses. Neither team was able to make an offensive push.
In the 18th minute, the Crimson Hawks struck first. IUP’s Heather Ribbons found herself with a wide open goal. Tonya Fabian made a break for a free ball that the Marauder goalkeeper Laura Reed raced after. Fabian reached the ball first at the top of the box and tapped it over to Ribbons for the easy goal to put IUP ahead, 1-0.
Robbins added another goal six minutes. Melissa Kornock fed Robbins the ball in the box to go one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Robbins knocked it far side to increase the IUP lead to 2-0 heading to the break.
The Crimson Hawks extended their lead to 3-0 in the 66th minute. Robbins, recording her fifth point in the game and 15th of the season, passed the ball up to Carter Sheely for a chip shot over Millersville’s reserve goalkeeper Erica Roth, who just entered the game for her first appearance of the season.
The Marauders were not able to find any answers. IUP outshot Millersville by a margin of 23-9 in the match.
Millersville is back in action Monday, Oct. 10 when it travels to Lock Haven for a makeup game against the Bald Eagles. The game is slated to start at 4 p.m.
