The South Dakota State women’s soccer team needed nearly all of regulation to find the goal, but find the goal it did, scoring in the 85^thminute to beat UMKC…

Senior Kayla Braffet, who had not scored since the conference opener on Sept. 30, received a pass from senior Kelsey Ferguson and put it in the back of the net.

The Jacks held a significant statistical advantage, once again. SDSU outshot UMKC 15-4, including a 10-1 shots on goal advantage.

Junior Christa Nyblom and sophomore Darci Miller led the offensive attack with four shots and three shots, respectively. Each placed three shots on goal. Braffet and Ferguson took three shots and two shots on goal apiece.

Senior goalkeeper Kat Donovan made one save as the defense posted yet another shutout. The shutout is her 11^th of the season, setting a SDSU and Summit League record for shutouts in a single season.

SDSU has held its opponents scoreless for 769 straight minutes; the last 740 coming in the first eight conference games.

The Jacks improved to 11-5-2 with the win. More importantly, SDSU is 7-0-1 in and tied for first place in The Summit League standings.

UMKC fell to 7-6-4, 5-1-1 in conference play, which puts the team in third place.

“We played a very good game today against a tough UMKC team,” head coach Lang Wedemeyer said. “I was proud of the girls for gaining our rhythm back in the second half and for their perseverance today. It sets up a pretty exciting matchup next Saturday.”

SDSU returns home for the regular season finale against North Dakota State on Saturday, Oct. 29. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Fishback Soccer Park.

The game will have postseason implications, as NDSU is currently tied with SDSU atop the conference standings with a 6-0-1 mark.

The Jacks face the Bison for the 14th time in school history, the most of any opponent. NDSU holds a 6-5-2 series lead over SDSU.

Last season, NDSU beat SDSU in the regular season 2-1. The two teams met again in the first round of the conference tournament. In that game, the teams tied 1-1 (2ot), but the Bison advanced with a 4-3 advantage in penalty kicks.

The Bison tied UMKC 1-1 (2ot) on Friday and visited South Dakota on Sunday.
