<p><span style="font-size: small;">The South Dakota State women&rsquo;s soccer team topped Green Bay 2-0 in dramatic fashion on Friday to open the season...</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: small;">In the 82nd minute, junior midfielder <span class="biolink">Darci Miller</span> scored on a header off of a corner kick by junior forward <span class="biolink">Megan Kingston</span>.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: small;">Nearly six minutes later, freshman forward <span class="biolink">Diana Potterveld</span> took advantage of a two-on-one and netted the second goal of the game to secure the decision.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: small;">The first half played out according to script, more or less, as the two teams were scoreless.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: small;">Green Bay was more aggressive on the offensive end, leading in shots (6-2), shots on goal (2-0), and offsides (2-0). The two teams were even on corner kicks (2-2). Green Bay committed six fouls, while the Jacks committed two.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: small;">Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper <span class="biolink">Elisa Stamatakis</span> made two saves in the first half.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: small;">Senior <span class="biolink">Christa Nyblom</span> and freshman <span class="biolink">Diana Potterveld</span> recorded one shot apiece.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: small;">The majority of the second half came and went without much action, as the two teams were scoreless for the first 31 minutes.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: small;">But in a flash, similar to last season, the game completely changed.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: small;">Miller scored the first, assisted by Kingston, and six minutes later Potterveld added the second. Freshman <span class="biolink">Dani Patterson</span> and senior <span class="biolink">Brittany Sipp</span> were each credited with an assist on the second goal.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: small;">"The game was back-and-forth the entire night," head coach <span class="biolink">Lang Wedemeyer</span> said. "I was very proud of how we played in the last 15 minutes of the game. We got great contributions from a lot of players and many of our younger players stepped up tonight. We still have a lot to learn, but this was a good start to the season."<br /> </span></p> <p><span style="font-size: small;">Green Bay held the advantage in shots (8-7), but SDSU led in shots on goal (5-4) and corner kicks (5-2). The Phoenix committed eight fouls and three offsides, while the Jacks committed six fouls and two offsides.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: small;">Potterveld and Nyblom led the Jacks with two shots (one on goal) apiece. Miller, Kingston and junior <span class="biolink">Stacy Guijarro</span> recorded the other three SDSU shots on goal.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: small;">Stamatakis posted the shutout with four saves.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: small;">Neither team received a card.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: small;">The Jacks played without injured seniors&nbsp;<span class="biolink">St&eacute;phanie B&eacute;rub&eacute;</span>, <span class="biolink">Courtney Higgins</span> and <span class="biolink">Hannah Phillips</span>.<br /> </span></p> <p><span style="font-size: small;">The team concludes the road trip by traveling to Madison, Wis., for Sunday&rsquo;s game at Wisconsin. The Badgers defeated Notre Dame 1-0 with an 83rd-minute goal on Friday. Game time is set for 1 p.m.</span></p>
