JMU Women Fall 1-0 in OT at Drexel
PHILADELPHIA, Pa., Oct. 14, 2011 – Megan Hammaker’s overtime goal lifted Drexel to a 1-0 win over James Madison in Colonial Athletic Association women’s soccer Friday evening.
Drexel remained unbeaten at home in league play with a 3-0-1 record. The Dragons have a 5-7-3 overall record and a 3-3-1 CAA record.
JMU’s record now stands at 7-6-2 overall and 4-3-0 in CAA competition.
Hammaker’s score came on a shot from 15 yards out that sailed just under the crossbar with 2:04 left in the 10-minute overtime period.
Drexel held a 21-12 shot advantage but many of the Dragons’ shots were well wide of the goal. Shots on goal for the match were six for Drexel and three for JMU.
JMU redshirt freshman goalkeeper Kate Courter (Lincoln Park, N.J./Immaculate Heart) made five saves and allowed her first goal in three games.
Drexel goalie Eva Badana made three saves.
JMU slipped from second to third place in the league standings. Unbeaten William and Mary (7-0-0) is in first place with 21 points, followed by Northeastern (4-2-1) with 13 points and JMU (4-3-0) with 12. Virginia Commonwealth (3-2-2) and George Mason (3-2-2) are tied for fourth with 11 points each, and Old Dominion (3-3-1), Delaware (3-2-1) and Drexel (3-3-1) are tied for sixth with 10 points apiece.
The Dukes’ next game is at Delaware on Sunday (noon).
