Karp Leads The Way In Bucs Win Over Lions
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University women’s soccer team defeated Saint Leo University Wednesday night in a 2-0 shutout of the Lions.
Junior midfielder Emma Karp led the Buccaneer attack with six of Barry’s 16 shots including a pair that deflected off the crossbar.
Neither team was able to put one home in the first half, although the Bucs did see several great opportunities that came up just short.
Seven minutes into the second half sophomore forward Sara Karna connected on a pass to a slashing Karp and the New Jersey native fired a strike to put the Bucs up 1-0.
In the 66th minute Barry struck again, this time Karp picking up the assist on Lavinia Nkomo’s first goal of the season. Barry held off any chance at a Lion’s comeback with a strong defensive effort on their way to a 2-0 victory, and the third shutout of the year.
Becca Rodgers earned the shutout and the win for the Bucs who look to build the victory this weekend when they travel to Nova Southeastern University.
