Kent State Stopped By Central Michigan, 3-0
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Kent State soccer team (8-4-0, 2-2-0 Mid-American Conference) was unable to end Central Michigan’s home unbeaten streak Sunday afternoon, as the Golden Flashes dropped a 3-0 decision to the Chippewas at the CMU Soccer Complex.
Central Michigan (8-1-2, 2-0-2 MAC), who entered the game ranked No. 4 in the Great Lakes Region and were receiving votes in the NSCAA national poll, tallied goals in the 22nd, 45th and 58th minutes.
“Central Michigan is a very good team, but we didn’t compete hard enough today,” said head coach Rob Marinaro.
Kent State registered five shots on the day, with three shots on goal. The Golden Flashes were out-shot 17-5 and had a 13-2 discrepancy in corner kicks. The setback marked the first shutout against Kent State this season.
Senior goalkeeper Kelly Sherwood (Strongsville, Ohio) finished with six saves in the setback.
Kent State is back in action Friday, Oct. 7 when the Golden Flashes host Western Michigan for a 4 p.m. contest at Zoeller Field.
