Kevin Correa Named NEC Player of the Week
Brooklyn Heights, New York---St. Francis Brooklyn junior forward Kevin Correa was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week, announced by the league on Monday. For Correa, it is his first NEC Player of the Week selection. Last season, the Flushing native was a two-time NEC Rookie of the Week award winner (10/8/12 & 10/22/12).
Correa had a hand in five of the Terriers eight goals as St. Francis posted back-to-back wins over Saint Peter's and Howard to improve to 3-2 on the season. Overall, the reigning NEC Rookie of the Year scored three goals and dished out two assists for eight points. On Tuesday, in the Terriers' home opener at Brooklyn Bridge Park, he scored the first ever goal at the new soccer facility less than four minutes into the contest to seal a 3-1 victory against the Peacocks.
He then factored in all four goals in a 4-1 road victory at Howard, scoring twice, including the game-winner, and dishing out two assists. Last year's NEC points leader, Correa currently leads the league in goals (5), goals per game (1.00), points (12) and points per game (2.40). He is among the top-five in assists (2) and assists per contest (0.40).
After being shutout in the season opener at #3 UCONN, Correa has recorded a goal in four straight matches. The last Terrier to achieve a streak like that was, Correa. He accomplished the accolade from October 7th to October 21st, while posting two goals at home against Central Connecticut (10/12/12).
