Khosravi Named Big West Player of the Week
Irvine, CA—The Big West announced today that, for the second time in his young career, UC Riverside's freshman goalkeeper Ashkan Khosravi is the conference defensive player of the week.
Khosravi helped the Highlanders improve to 7-0-0 over the weekend with a pair of shutout victories at the UCR/Courtyard by Marriott Soccer Invitational, reducing his goals against average on the year to 0.59.
The wins were the fourth and fifth shutouts of the season for the Highlanders pulling the team within one of tying the 2007 squad for the most shutouts in the Division I history of the program.
UC Riverside and Khosravi both need just three more wins to set D-I era records for victories in a season for a team and an individual goalie.
The Highlanders are now ranked 24th in the nation by College Soccer News—the team’s highest ranking ever by the publication. Last week, they were ranked in the NSCAA Top-25 for the first time in the program’s history.
