Knights dominant in rout of Bryant
TEANECK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's team recorded their third victory and third cleansheet in conference play in four matches and remain second in the NEC standings by beating the Bryant Bulldogs 3-0 Friday night at University Stadium. The Knights move above .500 for the first time since the first week of September and to 7-6-2 overall. They remain unbeaten in NEC play at 3-0-1.
Sophomore Carly Tice notched her first goal of the season after collecting her own rebound and getting a deflection off her follow-up shot that proved to be the game-winner for the Knights. Tice followed that up fifty minutes later with her first assist when she found sophomore Esther Rochon unmarked from the left side with a pinpoint cross. That was Rochon's fourth of the season and she wasn't done as eleven minutes from the final whistle, she headed in her fifth off a beautiful Kasey Schiavoni cross. She now leads the team in both goals and points with 5 and 10, respectively.
Senior GK Sage DoVale recorded her fifth cleansheet of the season and third in a row. She was never really tested in the contest but commanded the box well and caught every attempt that came her way.
The Knights held the advantage of shots on goal throughout the match and finished at 8 to 5. FDU would outshoot the Bulldogs over the course of the match 12 to 8.
The game started out featuring heavy Bryant pressure led by sophomore forward Rachel Ivanicki who was a constant threat while getting off two shots in the opening ten minutes. After the Tice goal in the 10th minute, however, FDU completely controlled the remainder of the match. There were only minor chances for the Bulldogs before half-time.
At the half, FDU lead with five shots and three shots on goal. After the break, play was open and chippy as the Bulldogs tried to gain control of possession. Momentum swayed back in the Knights' favor 15 minutes in when Tice recorded her first assist of the season on a beautiful cross to the near post which found the head of an unmarked Rochon. One minute later and Rochon was gunning for her second of the match with a bullet from the top right of the box.
The Knights piled on the pressure and suffocated any Bryant attacks. Captain Amanda Goulet had a nice attempt from 25 yards out at the 67th minute mark but it was directed right at Bryant GK Lauren Viverito. Eleven minutes from time, Rochon put any Bryant comeback to rest with another beautifully headed goal off a Schiavoni cross, again from the left side.
FDU gets one full week off before returning to University Stadium to host Central Connecticut State University in the final home conference match of the regular season on Friday, October 25th. It is also Senior Night. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. but fans are encouraged to arrive early for the Senior Night ceremony. A live video stream will be available on NECFrontRow.com.
