Knox Topples Regents
The Prairie Fire overwhelmed Rockford University with a balanced effort in a 9-0 win on Wednesday at Jorge Prats Field.
First-year Connor Driscoll (Lewisville, TX, Hebron) led way for Knox (1-1-0) with three goals and an assist, one of five Prairie Fire players to score in the squad's first victory of the new season.
Sophomore Nathaniel Logie (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Queens Royal College) got Knox going early with the first goal of the match at the 1:25 mark on an assist by sophomore Charlie Harned (Webster Groves, MO, Clayton). Driscoll increased the lead to 2-0 when he knocked home a shot that began with a corner kick by senior Maxwell Gatyas (Plymouth, WI, Plymouth Comprehensive) that Harned then tipped.
First-year Bernardo Gasperazzo (Monte Carlos, Brazil, Colego Padrao) tallied his first college goal, assisted by Driscoll, about 10 minutes later to increase the advantage over Rockford (0-3-0) to 3-0. Logie and Driscoll rounded out the scoring in the first 45:00 for a 5-0 lead at the intermission.
First-year Terence Lau (Shanghai, China, Shanghai American School) scored the first of his two goals in the contest at 66:04 on an assist by junior Ezekiel Jere (Tema, Ghana, SOS Herman Gmeiner). Driscoll struck again less than two minutes later from Gatyas to put Knox on top 7-0.
Gatyas became the fifth Prairie Fire goal-scorer with a long strike at the 73:34 mark. Lau accounted for the final tally by Knox with about 10:00 left to play.
The other hat-trick of sorts, besides the three goals from Driscoll, was Harned's three assists in the match – a career best.
Knox outshot the Regents 25-1 overall and 12-0 on goal. Sophomore goalie Sean Dockrell (Dublin, Ireland, San Bernadino CC) recorded a shutout in his first action of the season for the Prairie Fire.
