LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Freshman goalie Katelyn Koslosky (East Islip, N.Y.) more than doubled her previous career high with 22 saves, but it wasn’t enough as the Rider University women’s soccer team routed Delaware State University, 4-3, in overtime Friday evening.

 

Koslosky, who tallied 10 saves last Friday against Delaware, finished the night tied for second all-time in Hornet single-game history with her 22 saves.  Jessica Gray grabbed 24 against St. Peter’s in 2003 and 22 against Lafayette in the same season.

 

“Katelyn played like a warrior tonight,” said DSU head coach Nitan Soni.  “The back line also did a tremendous job this evening and we really battled hard until the last minute.  We scored great goals, but we were also beaten by a great goal.”

 

The Broncs took an early lead with goals by Bridgette Bartkowski (sixth minute) and Jennifer Meier (16^th minute) before the Hornets got on the board with a corner kick goal from junior Theresa Wappett (Queensbury, N.Y.).

 

Del State tied things in the 57^th minute with a rebound goal from junior Jeanette Salgado (Bergenfield, N.J.), assisted by sophomore Kelly Pelz-Butler (Silver Spring, Md.).

 

Abi Cottam gave Rider a 3-2 lead in the 69^th minute before the Hornets tied things once again off of freshman Kate Numer’s (Lebanon, Pa.) first career goal in the 77^th minute. 

 

In the 95^th minute, Demi Mello scored on a header off of a corner kick to give the Broncs the win.

 

In the overtime period, RU outshot DSU, 5-0.  Koslosky recorded three saves in overtime.

 

The win is Rider’s fifth in a row to move them to 7-2-1 on the year while the Hornets fall to 1-9-1.  Del State travels to Staten Island, N.Y. on Sunday to take on Wagner at 1 p.m.
