Kutler’s Trick Rallies Colgate Past Saints
Ethan Kutler scored a natural hat trick, rallying Colgate past Siena Soccer 3-1 at the CU Inaria Classic in Hamilton, N.Y. Freshman forward Alexander Tejera scored his team-leading fourth goal for the Saints.
Kutler struck three times in a 17-minute span in the second half for Colgate (3-3-1). He knotted the score in the 66th minute, intercepted a pass and fired home the eventual game-winning goal in the 77th minute, an added an insurance tally in the 83rd minute. Kutler scored five goals in the Raiders’ two tournament games over the weekend and has scored nine of the team’s 10 goals this season.
Tejera got the Saints (5-3) off to a fast start, scoring just over three minutes into the match. He headed in a cross from senior captain Nick Theobald and has now tallied 11 points in his first eight collegiate matches.
But the second half was all Kutler and Colgate. The Red Raiders out-shot the Saints 15-4 in the stanza and scored three times on a Siena defense which had allowed just five goals total in the team’s first seven and a half matches.
Freshman goalkeeper Josh Weiss made six of his seven saves during the second half for the Saints which have never defeated Colgate (0-13-1).
Siena, which has dropped three of four to start its program record six-match road trip after its first-ever 4-0 start, will look to bounce back and end non-conference play on a high note. The Saints face Saint Joseph’s in their non-conference finale Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Philadelphia.
