Lady Bulldogs Open Season with a Win
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Adrian College women's soccer team, under the guidance of four-year head coach Ali Alamdari, opened its season with a convincing 3-1 victory over Aquinas College to start the year 1-0. Aquinas falls to 2-2.
"After the first 20 minutes of the match we settled down," said Alamdari. "That pretty much carried us through the rest of the game. We expected to win and we expected to play a good team and both were true."
Freshman Ellery Karsten scored her first collegiate goal at the 32 minute mark, about 30 seconds after substituting into the game, putting the Lady Bulldogs ontop 1-0.
After intermission, Karsten found sophomore First Team All-MIAA Sam Barker for a score, giving Adrian a comfortable 2-0 lead at the 51 minute mark.
Aquinas would make it interesting with a score with less than nine minutes left in the match, but Karsten answered for the Lady Bulldogs a minute and half later with her second goal of the game. This time freshman Sophie Rammal earned the assist on the play.
Adrian outshot Aquinas 20-15.
In the net for Adrian, junior goalie Chayna Wallace accumulated six saves.
Next up for Adrian is its home opener versus Heidelberg University. Match is slated for 7:30 p.m.
