Lady Hornets Open the Season On the Road
With only a day away from their first match, the Alabama State soccer team hits the road for a weekend swing in South Carolina. The Hornets start the weekend at the College Of Charleston on Friday, August 22 at 3 p.m. in Charleston, SC. On Sunday they will face a familiar opponent in South Carolina State who they defeated 5-0 last season, the match is slated for noon.
"We're excited to kick off the season and what we were able to get a lot accomplished in preseason. This is the deepest roster we have had so the position battles have been great," stated Head coach Jodie Smith when asked about his feelings leading into the season opener. "College of Charleston is always a strong program and we will have to be prepared for a tough game. We have had a great series with South Carolina State and after our win at home last year I know they'll be ready."
The Lady Hornets ended last season with a 14-7 record and advanced to the SWAC Tournament Championship only to lose to Jackson State. ASU finished first in the Eastern Division and conference with a 4-0 record.
