|@BamaStateWSC releases 2019 schedule, features eight home matches
MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State soccer coach Jodie Smith released the 2019 schedule today, featuring eight home matches at the ASU Soccer Complex and six other non-conference matches on the road.
Alabama State opens the season with a pair of road games in Edinburg (Texas) three days apart, facing Farleigh Dickinson to kick off the season August 22. They stay on the road, facing UT-Rio Grande Valley (August 25), before opening their home slate with a game against Faulkner (September 3).
The Lady Hornets hit the road two days later, facing UAB (September 5), before facing Jacksonville State (September 8) at home. After their home match against the Gamecocks, Alabama State hits the road for a pair of games at Samford (September 13) and Charleston Southern (September 15), before playing their final home of September against North Alabama (September 20).
Alabama State closes out the month of September with three road matches including opening conference play. The Lady Hornets face Mercer (September 22) and open conference play with Grambling State (September 27), before facing UAPB (September 29). The Lady Hornets return home to open October, facing Jackson State (October 4) and Southern (October 6).
The Lady Hornets close out the final month of the regular season by hitting the road to face Alcorn State (October 11) and Mississippi Valley State (October 13), before playing three consecutive home matches. They close out the home portion of their schedule against Texas Southern (October 18), Prairie View A&M (October 20) and Howard (October 25); before closing the regular season on the road against in-state foe Alabama A&M.
All home matches for the Lady Hornets will begin at 6 pm, except for Sunday games that will kick at 1 pm.

Alabama State soccer won back-to-back SWAC championships in 2016 and 2017, their first in school history. The Lady Hornets appeared in four of five championship games prior to the 2018 season, while head coach Jodie Smith picked up career win 175 during the 2018 season at Alabama State.

Alabama State will hold their annual Midnight Madness practice to kick things off for the 2019 season. The annual event takes place August 6 (Tuesday) at 12:01 am.
