Lady Scots Fall to Sewanee 2-0
SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Wednesday night in Sewanee, Tennessee, the Covenant women’s soccer team played The University of the South for their 5th game of the season. Covenant played a great game for the first half, passing well and stopping attacks on defense, but after entering the second half, the injury-riddled Lady Scots gave up 2 quick goals to Sewanee. With the 2-0 loss, Covenant moves to 1-3-1 on the year.
Covenant arrived excited and ready to play in the first half. They kept up with their opponents, attempting 4 shots to Sewanee’s 6. Hannah Bales countered this with 5 saves. The Lady Scots had 5 corner kicks, to Sewanee’s 1, and worked tirelessly to find the back of the net. For the first half, Covenant gave Sewanee a tough time, sticking with them.
From the start of the second half, though, Covenant lost their drive, allowing Ellie Quinn an opportunity for a header off of Lizzie Butler’s corner kick 7 minutes into the half. Sewanee was able to score again only 4 and a half minutes later as Layne Ezzell got a ball past keeper Bales to set the score 2-0. The Lady Tigers outshot Covenant 10 to 1 in the second half, keeping the ball on the offensive side of the field.
The Lady Scots record is now 1-3-1. Covenant’s next game will take place on Monday, September 17 at Birmingham Southern College.
