Lady Scots Recover from Loss to Beat TN-Wesleyan
ATHENS, Tenn. -- After a tough game last Saturday, the Covenant Lady Scots soccer team came back from the loss, beating TN-Wesleyan College 1-0 on Wednesday night. The Ladies outplayed their opponents, overwhelming them with the sheer number of shots on goal. Covenant played great defense, blanking the host Lady Bulldogs.
The Lady Scots had fabulous performances offensively from players like Teagan Wood (7 shots), Amy Dykstra (3 shots), and Katelyn Newsome (2 shots). With only 8 and a half minutes remaining in the game and the score still 0-0, Katelyn Newsome won a loose ball inside the penalty area and scored her first goal of the season, sending Covenant ahead 1-0.
Covenant had an astounding total of 16 shots compared to 8 by TN-Wesleyan. Once again, the Lady Scots defense allowed very few mistakes, with Hannah Bales staying focused during the second half, racking up 5 saves for a game total of 6.
Covenant’s next game is on Saturday, September 10, when they will take on Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky. Covenant has shown that a loss will not be able to hinder their spirit and dedication in the game of soccer.
