Lady Scots Upset Piedmont 1-0
DEMOREST, Ga. -- Kara Lee scored her fifth goal of the season in the 20th minute of action Wednesday evening as the Lady Scots soccer team shocked the undefeated Lady Lions of Piedmont College with a 1-0 victory at the Walker Athletic Complex in Demorest, Georgia. The victory is the fourth straight for Covenant and improves the Lady Scots record to 5-6-1 overall and 3-1 in the Great South. Piedmont drops to 12-1-1 (4-1 GSAC).
Covenant dominated play throughout the first half and reaped the benefits almost 20 minutes into the match. Margaret Cross had the assist after her crossing pass found Lee for a header in the box. The goal was Lee’s fourth in as many games but her first game-winner this season.
Piedmont added pressure in the second half, but a defense led by juniors Kat Allison and Eliza Drew refused to relinquish the lead. Goalkeeper Hannah Bales was an instrumental part of the victory as well. The freshman had a career high nine saves, seven of which came post-intermission.
The Lady Lions outshot Covenant 14-11 for the game and 10-1 in the second half alone. Marjorie Hammond had three saves on her end of the pitch.
Covenant will be back in action Saturday, October 15 at 4:00 p.m. for a conference match against LaGrange College.
