Lady Tiger soccer improves to 2-0 for first time
Jumping out to an early lead in its game at Kansas City Community College on Wednesday, the Cowley College women’s soccer team went on to a 2-0 victory.
Freshman Kierstyn Legg put Cowley on top a little over three minutes into the game by scoring her first collegiate goal off an assist from sophomore Sammy Miller.
The Lady Tigers would add a goal from Brittany Pratt with 18:29 left in the second half and Caitlyn Cosme made the lead stand up by recording the shutout in goal.
Julie Guzman and Rachael Schoonover set up the goal by Pratt.
For the first time in the five-year history of the soccer program, Cowley improved to 2-0 to start the season. Kansas City, which is in its first year as a soccer program, is now 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the Jayhawk Conference.
“No matter how pretty it was or not, it was good to get the win,” Cowley head coach Dane Straight said.
Cowley will attempt to make it three wins in a row when they play at Allen County Saturday at 2 p.m. Allen County is 0-2 on the season following a 3-1 loss to Hesston on Tuesday.
“We have got to be focused and ready to go from the start because Allen County will be physical and play for all 90 minutes,” Straight said.
