Lamar, Northwestern St. end in scoreless tie
NATCHITOCHES, La. – Bailey Fontenot made nine saves for her eighth career shutout as the Lamar University women’s soccer team battled to a 0-0 tie with Northwestern State in a Southland Conference game Tuesday night.
Fontenot shut out Northwestern State for the second time in as many appearances against the Demons. Last season, Fontenot made 11 saves in a 1-0 Lamar victory.
The tie snapped a three-game losing streak for Lamar (3-5-1 overall, 0-1-1 Southland). Lamar is 3-2-2 all-time against the Demons.
Jessica Danku made nine saves for Northwestern State (2-6-1, 0-1-1).
“This is the best game we played all year,” Lamar coach Orlando Cervantes said. “It’s the first complete game we put together all season.”
Lamar’s Kristin Bos had a game-high seven shots, including one in overtime where she was robbed by Danku.
“Both teams had chances to win tonight,” Cervantes said. “I thought it was a very even game.”
Lamar returns home to host Stephen F. Austin at 7 p.m. Friday and Houston Baptist at 1 p.m. Sunday in Southland Conference contests. For ticket information, call (409) 880-1715, or visit www.LamarCardinals.com.
