Late goal(s) sink #CUJackets
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - It wasn't the last goal, but the one in the 85th minute that bit the Yellow Jackets in their first loss of the year - a 3-1 reversal at Slippery Rock.
Cedarville, 4-1-2 overall, battled out of an early hole after relinquishing a goal in the 9th minute.
Jon Earl tapped in a rebound in the 40th minute to knot the match. Daniel Rigby was credited with an assist when his shot ricocheted off the keeper and post onto the foot of Earl for his second goal of the year.
It stayed that way until the hosts took advantage for the game winner with a breakway up the middle with just under six minutes left. Then, SRU caught the Jackets pushing forward and lobbed the final tally into the empty net at the buzzer.
"I thought Slippery Rock was a good team and they work hard which led to two of their goals," summarized Interim Head Coach Brett Faro. "It was certainly a challenge to play there at 1:30 on turf, but I thought in the end they just wanted it more.
"Our guys did well to battle back and create chances for big parts of the game, but it takes a 90-minute effort. I didn't think we gave them our best today."
Slippery Rock, 4-1-1, outshot the Jackets 18-16 overall, but CU placed more on goal, 11-7. Next up, Cedarville heads to Lock Haven (Pa.) on Monday for a 4:30 contest.
"That will be another good test," said Faro. "We need to continue looking forward in order to ultimately get where we want to be."
