LATE GOAL PUTS TECH BACK ON TOP FOR GOOD
Fort Wayne, IN – The Indiana Tech men’s soccer team hosted the Grace College Lancers on Wednesday night at Warrior Field. With the match tied at two goals apiece and just under ten minutes to play, freshman Sam Didion (Ft. Wayne, IN/Carroll) delivered the game winner with shot to the corner of the goal. The Warriors move to 7-3 on the year while the Lancers fall to 4-2-1.
The match was scoreless until the 36th minute when senior Mark Baptist (Essex, England/South East Essex) found Aultain Gaye (Grand Rapids, MI/Grand Rapids Central) who put a header past the Lancer keeper to put Tech up 1-0.
Just five minutes later, Gaye, the reigning WHAC Offensive Player of the Week, slotted home his team-best sixth goal of the season with an assist from Elliott Everson (Horsmonden, England/Hayesbrook) to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead at the half.
Grace trimmed the deficit to just one with a goal in the 49th minute of the contest and then tied it up with a score just over ten minutes later.
But at the 80:22 mark, Didion netted his first career game-winning goals to lead Tech past the Lancers.
The Warriors outshot Grace College 20-9 and had five corner kicks compared to the visitors four.
The Warriors are off until October 1 when they hit the road, traveling to Ann Arbor, Michigan to open conference play against Concordia University.
