LATE GOALS DOOM BEAVERS IN PULLMAN
PULLMAN, Wash. — The Oregon State women's soccer team fell to Washington State, 2-1 on Thursday night at Lower Soccer Field.
Oregon State (6-10-2, 1-8 Pac-12) was efficient in its shot selection, tallying just 10 shots-five in the first half, with two on frame. Washington State (7-9-1, 2-7 Pac-12) racked up 23 shots, while only putting six on the mark. Junior Bella Geist finished with four saves after seeing nine corner kicks from the Cougars.
Junior Nikki Faris started the scoring early after a header in the eighth minute gave the Beavers a 1-0 lead. The goal was keyed from a kick by senior Annie Govig that was sent into the box. It was the sixth goal of the season for Faris and her third in Pac-12 matches. Oregon State continued to hold the lead going into halftime, despite Washington State recording 15 shots-three on frame in the first 45 minutes.
Following the break, Washington State continued to fire shots and eventually found the back of the net in the 72nd minute to tie the game up 1-1. Oregon State looked to retake the lead a couple minutes later after junior Emma Jones took a shot, but was blocked. The Cougars broke the tie five minutes after its first goal to take a 2-1 lead with less than 15 minutes left to play.
Junior Kayla Latham blasted a shot on frame in the final minutes, but was saved by Cougar goalkeeper Ella Dederick. Oregon State had a pair of corner kicks down the stretch, but could not find the equalizer.
Oregon State will continue its road trip in Washington on Sunday, when it faces the Washington Huskies at 3 p.m., on Pac-12 Networks.
