Late Spark Dwindles Out of Reach; Lady Scots Fall to Asbury
WILMORE, Kent. -- Kara Lee’s goal in the 73rd minute might have given the Lady Scots soccer team hope at a comeback, but Lady Eagle Bre Smith’s goal 8 minutes later was the deciding factor in Saturday’s game at Asbury University. Asbury was able to hold on and win 2-1 despite a second half possession that tilted heavily in Covenant’s favor. Covenant moves to 1-2-1 on the year, while Asbury improves to 3-2.
The Lady Scots had several dangerous looks late, including senior Margaret Cross’ well-placed header that was cleared off the line and junior Amy Dykstra’s left-footer that she pushed just wide. Covenant outshot Asbury 6-5 in the second half and earned 3 opportunities via corner kicks post-intermission.
Asbury outshot Covenant 14-11 for the game. The Lady Eagles first goal came from Andrea Hasik, assisted by Kaitlyn Hooper, in the 27th minute.
Hannah Bales recorded 6 saves, while Katelyn Newsome and Eliza Drew each added 3 shots to their season totals.
The Lady Scots next game is on Wednesday as they take on The University of the South at 6:00 p.m. in Sewanee, Tennessee. Covenant will return home on Saturday, September 24.
