Lehigh earns another Team Academic Award
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Creating a culture of excellence on the field and in the classroom, the Lehigh women's soccer team was recognized for its academic prowess on Thursday with a United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 16th time in the last 17 years. The award is for the 2018-19 academic year, which saw the Mountain Hawks post a stellar 3.61 team GPA, especially impressive for a roster with more than 25 student-athletes.
College Team Academic Award recipients are those with a composite grade point of average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster. In total, 644 women's squads across Division I, II, and III received the award. Lehigh was one of 255 schools to have both its women's and men's teams recognized.
Last spring, the Mountain Hawks tallied a 3.65 team GPA, No. 1 among all Lehigh Athletics teams and the program's fourth straight semester of 3.5 or higher. Lehigh placed a program-record 25 on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, led by a pair of 4.0s – Annika Jansa and Kylie Ginsberg. Meanwhile, Sam Miller was named to her second straight Academic All-Patriot League team and Mary Casey received the program's Scholar-Athlete of the Year award at the annual end-of-year banquet.
Lehigh is coming off an exciting 3-1 win over Bucknell on Wednesday night. The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Saturday at Navy. Opening kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
