Lehigh holds annual banquet
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's soccer team held its annual awards banquet on Sunday (Dec. 7) at the Gander Room near campus. Seniors Ashley Blanks, Darby Dustman, Jordan Goodwin, Danielle Salans and Darby Wiegand reflected on their careers in the brown and white while team awards were handed out.
Athlete of the Year was awarded to Goodwin, who solidified a stellar defense which allowed just 16 goals in 16 games, including just six goals over nine Patriot League games. A co-captain (with Blanks), Goodwin played in 14 games, starting 13 of them. Her influence, both as a player and leader, went far beyond any on-field statistics.
Junior Paige Elliott was named Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second straight season. The Chemical Engineering major owns a stellar 3.99 cumulative GPA, recording a perfect 4.0 GPA in three of four semesters thus far. She was recently named to the Academic All-Patriot League team and was one of just two league players to earn a spot on the Capital One Academic All-District Team. On the field, Elliott accumulated two points in 2014 (both assists) while starting for a defense that allowed just one goal per game and just 0.67 per league game.
Blanks received the Coaches Award, presented to the team member who exemplifies outstanding work ethic, on and off the field. Blanks and teammate Ani Nahapetian each started eight games in goal this past season and combined to form an impressive 1-2 punch between the pipes. Blanks finished with a 1.18 GAA and .744 save percentage, posting a pair of shutouts.
Lehigh ended its season with a 4-7-5 record and 2-3-4 mark in the league. The Mountain Hawks made history, posting their longest-ever unbeaten streak to begin league play (six). They tied defending Patriot League champion Boston University and finished the season with six shutouts.
