Lehigh hosts Bucknell Saturday night
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Coming off a dramatic 1-0 double overtime win over Lafayette on Wednesday, the Lehigh women's soccer team hosts Bucknell on Saturday in the Mountain Hawks' final regular season home game. Opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Prior to kickoff, Lehigh will recognize its seven seniors on Senior Night.
With Wednesday's win, Lehigh jumped into a tie for sixth place in the league standings as the top six teams advance to the Patriot League Tournament. The Mountain Hawks have won two of their last three league games to improve to 2-3-2 (7-6-3 overall), tied with Army West Point who also owns eight points. Lehigh stands just two points behind Colgate and Loyola, tied for fourth place with 10 points apiece.
Wednesday featured a tale of two halves. Lehigh and Lafayette combined for just four first-half shots, but the game opened up in the second. The Mountain Hawks held a 12-6 shots edge in the second half along with a dominant 12-0 advantage in corner kicks. After Lafayette tallied two shots in the first overtime, Lehigh converted its only shot of either extra session into the game-winning goal. Sophomore Grace Correll scored her second goal of the season and third-career goal against Lafayette at the 102:53 mark, taking a pass from junior Madeline Walsh and making a move to get herself free for a shot into the top left corner of the goal. Four of Correll's six career goals have now come against the Leopards as she's accounted for all of Lehigh's offense over the last two games vs. Lafayette, both Lehigh victories.
Bucknell enters Saturday in second place in the league standings at 8-5-1 overall and 4-1-2 in the league for 14 points. The Bison own a six-game unbeaten streak heading into the weekend, with their last loss coming 2-0 against Duquesne on Sept. 22. Bucknell's lone Patriot League defeat came against Boston University, with ties against Lafayette and Navy. Kendall Ham leads the offense with 18 points via eight goals and two assists. Alexis Gannon owns seven points (three goals, one assist) and Talia Szatkowski has six (two goals, two assists). Jessica Ratner has played every minute in goal, tallying a strong 0.96 GAA and .826 save percentage.
A competitive all-time series sees the Bison leading, 13-10-3. Lehigh's last win came in 2012 while last season featured a hard-fought scoreless tie. The past five matchups have all finished within a single goal.
After Saturday's game, Lehigh will hit the road for its final regular season game at American next Friday (Oct. 30). Opening kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
