BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a two-game road swing, the Lehigh women’s soccer team returns to the Ulrich Sports Complex on Wednesday for its final home game of the season against Penn. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. It’s a matchup of the defending Ivy League Champion Quakers against the defending Patriot League Champion Mountain Hawks. Lehigh looks to earn a signature victory against the 12-2 Quakers while defeating Penn for the first time since 1992, and only second time in program history.

 

The Mountain Hawks put forth a pair of solid efforts over the weekend, but were unable to score until just over a minute remaining on Sunday at Colgate. It was too little, too late as Lehigh fell at Bucknell and Colgate by 1-0 and 2-1 finals. Due to out-of-town scores, the Mountain Hawks were eliminated from postseason contention.

 

However, Lehigh does look forward to a pair of games this week, beginning with Wednesday night’s showdown. The Mountain Hawks will then look to finish at .500 in Patriot League play when they travel to Holy Cross Saturday.

 

Lehigh controlled play in the early going at Colgate Sunday, but couldn’t find the back of the net. Instead, the Raiders responded with a pair of tallies to put the Mountain Hawks into a hole. The squad responded, with a valiant second-half effort capped off by a goal from sophomore Murphee Greeley with just over a minute remaining in regulation. That gave Greeley her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

 

Ranked sixth in the most recent NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Rankings, Penn enters the game with a 12-2 record, 4-1 in Ivy League play, riding a seven-game winning streak. The Quakers began the season with five straight wins before falling to George Mason and Harvard, then responding with seven in a row. Kathryn Bart leads the offense with 20 points via seven goals and six assists. She’s followed by Marin McDermott and Callan Parra with 16 (seven goals, two assists) and 10 points (four goals, two assists), respectively. Four different goalkeepers have seen action, led by Sarah Banks, who has a 0.49 GAA and .848 save percentage in 14 games.

 

Penn leads the all-time series, 12-1. After the teams split the first two meetings, the Quakers have responded with 11 straight victories against the Mountain Hawks. Lehigh’s lone victory against Penn came in 1992 by a 3-2 final.

 

The Mountain Hawks will wrap up their season on Saturday when they travel to Holy Cross to face the Crusaders. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
