Lehigh nets three PL weekly awards
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Senior Mark Forrest, junior Will Smith and freshman Josh Luchini were named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, Goalkeeper of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, announced by the league on Monday.
For Forrest, the award is his third of the season, his Patriot League-record ninth of his career. He scored the game-winning goal that knocked off 20th-ranked Colgate last Wednesday in the 31st minute. Forrest finished the week with a goal, two points and five shots on goal. He is currently sitting at 38 goals in his career and 97 points, six shy and nine shy of passing Andrew Mittendorf (1995-98) for first all-time in Lehigh and Patriot League history.
For his dual performances against No. 20 Colgate and Navy, Smith won Goalkeeper of the Week due to both of his shutout performances. Smith made two saves and kept the Raiders out of the net on Wednesday and stopped five shots amid a rapid Midshipmen attack late in the second half. With the wins, Smith has notched a Patriot League-leading seven shutouts and lowered his GAA to 0.80 on the year. The award is Smith's third of the season, the fourth of his career.
Luchini wrapped up another great week for Lehigh with his second Patriot League Rookie of the Week award of the season. Against Colgate, Luchini assisted on Forrest's game-winning goal and he scored the game-winner against Navy on Saturday, finishing the week with a goal, an assist, and 11 total shots. He has five goals and two assists for 12 points so far this season.
The Mountain Hawks head into Saturday against rival Lafayette with a 7-4-1 overall record, currently 4-0-0 in the Patriot League for the first time since 2006.
