Lehigh places school-record 25 on honor roll
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – While advancing to the Patriot League Championship Game on the field this fall, the Lehigh women's soccer team was also excelling in the classroom. One year after placing a school-record 23 individuals on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, the Mountain Hawks featured 25 honorees this year, as announced on Wednesday. Those 25 honorees were good for second most in the league. Lehigh posted an impressive 3.59 team GPA this fall, including 11 individuals with a 3.85 or higher.
To be eligible for the Fall Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade point average (GPA) in the fall semester and participate in one of the Patriot League's seven fall championship sports, including men's and women's cross country, field hockey, football, men's and women's soccer and volleyball.
Leading the way for Lehigh was a pair of 4.0s in junior Annika Jansa (Finance) and senior Kylie Ginsberg (Industrial and Systems Engineering). Also with a 3.9 or higher was sophomore Grace Forsyth (3.94, Molecular Biology), senior Sam Miller (3.92, Psychology), senior Lidia Breen (3.90, Journalism) and freshman Shannon Boyce (3.90, Arts and Sciences).
Lehigh routinely receives a number of academic honors. Miller was named to her second straight Academic All-Patriot League Team while junior Mary Casey, who ended the fall with a 3.86 in Biology, garnered the Mountain Hawks' Scholar-Athlete Award. In early October, Lehigh received the United Soccer Coaches (formally NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 15th time in the last 16 years.
On the field during the 2018 season, the Mountain Hawks advanced to their first Patriot League Championship Game since 2010 as fifth-seeded Lehigh beat No. 4 seed Bucknell and No. 2 seed Colgate in dramatic fashion before falling at No. 1 Boston University behind a 73rd-minute goal.
