Lehigh recognized with NSCAA Academic Award
November 29, 2012
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women’s soccer team has been honored with an NSCAA Academic Award following a strong year in the classroom, as recently announced. The Mountain Hawks earned the award for the 10th consecutive season for their effort in the 2011-12 academic year.
In total, 498 women’s teams in the nation across Division I, II and III were honored with the award. The NSCAA honor is presented to all teams with a combined grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The Lehigh men’s team also earned the NSCAA award, making Lehigh one of just 149 schools in the country to have both their men’s and women’s teams honored.
Lehigh women’s soccer has earned the team award every year dating back to 2003. The Mountain Hawks earned many academic honors during the 2012 campaign, led by sophomore midfielder Darby Dustman. Dustman garnered Academic All-Patriot League honors after a strong season that saw her finish tied for third on the team in goals (3) and tied for fourth in points (6). Dustman, also a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, owns a 3.81 GPA as an Industrial Engineering major.
Lehigh finished its season with a 5-13 record, 3-4 in Patriot League play, and qualified for the Patriot League tournament after winning its final three regular season games against Patriot League opposition. Following the campaign, freshman defender Paige Elliot was named a First Team All-Patriot League performer and junior midfielder Murphee Greeley earned second team honors. Lehigh graduates four seniors and returns 19 underclassmen for next season.
