Leonardi named America East Rookie of the Wk
August 20, 2012

Cambridge, Mass. – Freshman Aley Leonardi (Kennebunkport, Maine) of the Stony Brook women’s soccer team was named the America East Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Leonardi scored the game-tying goal on Sunday in a 1-1 draw vs. Temple at LaValle Stadium. The goal was Leonardi’s first as a Seawolf and came on her first collegiate shot.

With the Seawolves trailing midway through the second half, Leonardi latched onto a cross from junior Caitlin Pfeiffer (Holland, N.Y.) and poked the ball over the onrushing Temple goalkeeper from just inside the 18-yard box to knot the score in the 69th minute.

Leonardi was one of seven freshmen to see action on Sunday against Temple. Fellow freshmen Raven Edwards (West Orange, N.J.) and Tessa Devereaux (Fayetteville, N.Y.) combined for nine of the Seawolves' 20 shot attempts against the Owls.

The Seawolves (0-1-1) will hit the road this weekend for a pair of matches against local rivals Wagner (Friday at 4 p.m.) and St. John's (Sunday at 1 p.m.).
