Louisville Signs Two Standouts in soccer
University of Louisville head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes has announced the Cards’ 2015 recruiting class, which includes two standout student-athletes. Jill Vetere and Gabrielle Vincent have both signed letters-of-intent to play for the University of Louisville next fall.
“We are thrilled to be adding both Gaby Vincent and Jill Vetere to our class of 2015,” said Ferguson-Dayes. “They will both be able to make an immediate impact on our program and we are excited to help them reach their potential both in the classroom and on the playing field.”
Both Vetere and Vincent have extensive experience on the high school, club, and national development levels and will help the Cardinals compete within one of the most talented conferences in the country.
“Jill and Gaby are great compliments to one another,” she added. “While Jill has an attacking presence, Gaby has the defensive presence and both have the mentality to compete in the very prestigious Atlantic Coast Conference.”
Vincent had a standout senior season, earning 2014 NSCAA High School All-America honors while playing for William Mason High. A three-time first team all-conference honoree, she also racked up all-region, all-state, all-district, and all-city accolades while being named both the OSSCA Division I Ohio Player of the Year, the GMC Player of the Year and the Mason High Offensive Player MVP in 2014. She also earned all-district honors in 2013 and second team all-conference honors in 2011 to go along with being named the 2011 Mason High Newcomer of the Year. During her career, the Mason High team won two conference championships, four sectional championships, three district and regional championships, and participated in the state finals twice.
Outside of her accomplishments at Mason High, Vetere competed for the Ohio Elite Soccer Academy. She also competed on the national level, participating in the 2013 Nike ECNL National ID2 Camp and the 2011 U14 and 2012 U15 National Team Training Camps.
“Jill has had tremendous playing experience with her high school, Ohio elite club team and within our youth national team program,” said Ferguson-Dayes. “She is a dynamic attacking personality with the ability to score goals, and create chances for herself and her teammates. She has a very natural feel for the game and absolutely loves to play. She is both a big personality on and off the field and we cannot wait for her to arrive in August!”
Vincent also excelled during her senior season. She was named to both the 2014 MACS All-State first team and the 2014 Baltimore Sun All-Metro first team. A captain of her team at the McDonogh School as a senior, she led her team to a No. 2 ranking in the NSCAA National Final Poll after going 15-0-0 and helped the team earn the title of No. 1 SIMA Fab50 National High School Champion. As a junior and senior, the McDonogh School team was ranked No. 1 in the state of Maryland. Individually, she was named to the IAAM “A” Division All-Conference Team for both the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
On the club circuit, Vincent captained her Maryland United FC and Soccer Association of Columbia teams. She also played through the Olympic Development Program, competing in the 2013-14 Elite Clubs National League PDP and the 2010-12 Maryland ODP.
“Gaby has also had tremendous playing experience with her high school and club team,” said Ferguson-Dayes. “Most recently she captained her high school soccer team at McDonogh where they finished ranked No. 2 nationally. Gaby is a tireless worker who is dominant in the air both offensively and defensively. She has a tremendous feel for the game, great vision and passing ability and will be the anchor in midfield. We cannot wait for Gaby to arrive on campus in August!”
