Luchini on MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – With framework for a season ready to take place in a matter of weeks, junior forward Josh Luchini received a great honor ahead of the spring 2021 campaign, named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List announced by the United Soccer Coaches and Missouri Athletic Club on Thursday afternoon. The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year.
34 Division I players from around the country were added to the list this preseason and three players represent the Patriot League with Luchini, Navy's Matt Nocita and Loyola Maryland's Chase Vosvick.
Though it's been 435 days since he last took the field in a competitive setting, Luchini had a phenomenal sophomore season in 2019, helping lead the Mountain Hawks to their third Patriot League championship in program history. During the season, he led the Patriot League in goals with 11, adding two assists to his total and was named Offensive Player of the Year and a First Team All-Patriot League selection for the first time.
To top it all off, Luchini was named a Third Team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches for his efforts and in the fall was named a Second Team Preseason All-American by College Soccer News.
The Wexford, Pa. native has scored 17 goals and tallied six assists for 40 points in 40 appearances through his first pair of seasons. Luchini has led the Patriot League in game-winning goals in each of the last two years, registering nine.
"It's a great honor for any college player to be on the Hermann Trophy watch list and I'm pleased that Josh is being recognized as a top player in Division I men's soccer," said head coach Dean Koski. "The recognition is well deserved and I know Josh will be humbled by the honor."
Luchini is Lehigh's fourth player since 2008 to be named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List and the first since Mark Forrest in 2018.
The MAC Hermann Trophy Watch Lists are compiled by members of the United Soccer Coaches Men's and Women's NCAA Division I All-America Committees. Fifteen semifinalists will be named for both the men's and women's MAC Hermann Trophy near the end of the college season based on voting by NCAA Division I coaches and from those candidates, three finalists will ultimately be placed on the ballot for the coveted award.
