Marauders Fall to No. 22 Slippery Rock in PSAC Opener
Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville women’s soccer team fell to No. 22 Slippery Rock on Wednesday after several weather delays pushed the game back two hours. The Rock scored twice in the first session to knock off the Marauders by a score of 2-0 to open conference play.
At 3:45 p.m., two hours after the original start time, the pitch was drained and ready for the teams’ first game in conference play. It took both teams time to adjust to the wet turf. There were a few puddles that remained that caused passes to slow down and turnovers to happen. Eventually both teams adjusted to the conditions.
In the 11th minute, Slippery Rock’s Kara Mullins took a pass from teammate Shelby Ward and placed it top shelf past the diving Millersville goalkeeper to give The Rock a 1-0. Slippery Rock (2-1, 1-0 PSAC) dominated much of the first period, outshooting the Marauders (2-1, 0-1 PSAC) by a 6-3 margin.
Mullins contributed one more time for The Rock when she hit Lucy Hannon who found the back of the net to extend Slippery Rock’s lead to two in the 20th minute.
Millersville was not able to find able to find the shots that it did in the first two games. The Marauders recorded just six shots and only two on goal the entire game.
Senior Allison Snyder led Millersville with three shots, including her third free kick from just outside the box in as many games.
The Marauders hit the road and head to Lock Haven this Saturday, Sept. 10. The game is slated for 3 p.m.
