Marauders to Host NCAA Atlantic Regional
Millersville, Pa. – For the third time in four years the Millersville men's soccer team is headed to the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament, and for the second time, it will serve as host for the Atlantic Regional which begins Thursday, Nov. 10 at 4 p.m.
Joining Millersville in the four-team regional is California (Pa.), Shippensburg, Merychurst. Millersville hosts No. 4 seed Mercyhurst in the opening round. Both semifinals games will be played on Thursday and the regional title game is Saturday at 6 p.m. All three games will be played at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.
The Marauders captured their first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship on Saturday after defeating Bloomsburg by a score of 1-0. Millersville ousted fellow NCAA qualifier California (Pa.) in the PSAC Semifinals on Wednesday by a score of 4-0.
Millersville is making its third appearance to the NCAA Tournament, all under head coach Steve Widdowson's watch. The Marauders made back-to-back NCAA appearance in 2008 and 2009 where they also hosted the Atlantic Regional in 2008, coming away with a regional championship.
The Vulcans and Red Raiders will open regional play on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 4 p.m., with the Marauders and Lakers squaring off at 7 p.m.
Millersville defeated Mercyhurst on Oct. 15 at home by a score of 3-1 and has bested California (Pa.) twice this season, most recently in the PSAC Semifinals. It has also shut out Shippensburg at home, 1-0.
