Marist Drops Match to Cornell, 1-0
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat to Cornell on Sunday afternoon at Tenney Stadium. The Red Foxes are now 1-2 on the season while the Big Red remain unbeaten at 2-0.
Cornell freshman Paige DeLoach scored the lone goal of the contest, the first of her collegiate career, at the 58:16 mark on a cross feed from junior Caroline Growney. Freshman Erin Fitzgerald reigstered a pair of shots.
Senior Andrea Wicks (East Northport, N.Y.) made three saves in net for the Red Foxes and senior Marjana Maksuti (Delmar, N.Y.) had two shots. Sophomore Danielle Glazer (Queens, N.Y.) fired a shot on goal as well.
Cornell outshot Marist 9-3, but Marist got a couple corner kicks in their own end in the 80th and 81st minutes and had four in the game.
The Red Foxes will travel to play Navy of the Patriot League at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 and face Delaware of the CAA at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 14. Both games will take place at Navy's Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
