Marist Edges Women’s Soccer
LOUDONVILLE, NY – Nicole Sasso’s 48th minute score was the difference as Marist defeated Siena Women’s Soccer 1-0 at Siena Field. Taylor Dorado made five saves for the Saints.
Marist (6-7-1, 3-2-1) held a slim 14-13 edge in shots while Siena (4-8-3, 2-3-1) attempted a season-high eight corners in an evenly played match.
But just over two minutes into the second half, Sasso registered the decisive tally for the Red Foxes which have now won three of four. A corner kick from the right by Alexa Svensson was misplayed in the box, allowing Sasso to blast home the winning marker in traffic.
Natalie Kirchner made seven saves to post the clean sheet for Marist which secured just its second win in the past 10 meetings between the I-87 rivals.
Darby D’Angelo paced the offense for the Saints with three shots – all of which were on target – while a trio of players added two shots apiece for Siena which had entered the day tied for fourth in the MAAC Standings with the Red Foxes at the halfway point of the conference slate.
The Saints have the league bye Wednesday before returning to action next Saturday with a noon kickoff at Manhattan.
